Local, State Briefs: Man suspected in mother's machete killing charged

A man who is accused of hacking his mother to death with a machete was formally charged with murder Monday. Shawn Deatherage, 32, is charged with first-degree murder and misdemeanor resisting an officer in connection with the death of his mother, Cheryl Deatherage, 56.
